Mitini Nepal, an organization advocating for the rights of Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (LBT) individuals, conducted a special program to mark the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) 2023 at Bagmati Province in Kathmandu along with the global theme “Together Always: United in Diversity”. The event was inaugurated by Surendra Raj Acharya, the minister for women, children, and senior citizens. During the program, chief guest Acharya also launched a storybook “Together always: united in diversity” and a factsheet “Impacts of Age discrimination on older LGBTI persons in Nepal”. In between the formal session, one of the LGBTI couple who are living together for long and a family was also honored providing them with cash prize and letter of appreciation. The event also featured speeches by chairpersons of National Human Right Commission, National Women Commission and Federation of Nepali Journalist. The event which was chaired by Mitini Nepal president Laxmi Ghalan was attended by representatives from UN agencies, embassies, commissions, community from seven provinces, INGO’s/NGO’s, media and celebrities.
